Violent, sexy, hallucinatory. The figures double and merge, vibrate like a good, hard fuck, smear into each other's embrace. In/out, on/off. Is it supposed to hurt when you do it to me? Remember how confusing a glimpse of two adults engaged in sex was when you were a child? I can't help but imagine the artist sitting with me behind the proscenium arch snapping off good ones. Did he paint those boys before making them wrestle in the manner of the Greeks? Did he use his fingers? There's evidence that da Vinci's famed sfumato effect was the result of finger tapping. Indeed, when I looked at this triptych I said, "I'd tap that!" The middle one looks like Rodin's "The Kiss" if sculpted by Rob Bottin circa '82. That's a good thing. What better way to love someone than through absorption! I've been concerned lately with the selfish nature of love. People rarely talk about it. I think these images are good. They scare me a little and make me yearn for something more than sex and power...
